About Hannah Choi Executive Function Expert

I got into executive function because I needed it myself.

I'm Hannah, an executive function coach, speaker, and podcast host based in Fairfield, CT. I help students and adults figure out how their brain works and build strategies that actually fit their life.

Why I do what I do

I found out as an adult that I have ADHD. I had spent much of my life wondering why everything felt so much harder for me than it seemed to be for everyone else. I was smart, I was capable, and I still couldn't get out of my own way. I'd make plans and not follow through. I'd lose track of time, forget things I cared about, and beat myself up for all of it. Again and again.

It wasn't until I started learning about executive function that things started to click. I finally understood why the systems weren't working. I learned about my brain and how it processes things differently. Once I stopped fighting it and started working with it, everything changed. Once I understood myself, I was able to begin dismantling the negative narrative in my head and moving towards a happier life.

That's what I want for the people I coach. Not a quick fix. Not a hack. These are tempting, but they don't last. What lasts is a real understanding of how their brain is wired and strategies that are built around that, not against it.

I've spent over 20 years supporting and teaching students and adults, many with executive function challenges. I've been in classrooms, in one-on-one coaching sessions, and on stages (both virtual and real) in front of hundreds of people. I know what it feels like to finally understand yourself. I want that for everyone I work with.

"What I love is the moment someone stops apologizing for how their brain works and starts building a life around it instead."

How I approach this

Grounded in research

Everything I teach you is based on what we actually know about how the brain works. I stay current on the research and science so that the strategies I share in coaching sessions aren't guesswork.

Personalized to you

I don't hand you a playbook. What works for one person won't work for another. We figure out your version together, and we adjust it when life changes, because it always does.

Compassionate and honest

I'll be honest with you, but never in a way that makes you feel worse. This work takes honesty, patience, communication, and a lot of acceptance that things won’t always go as planned.

ON THE AIR

I co-host a podcast

I Think I Can Be Happier is the podcast I co-host with Amy McDuffie, a fellow executive function coach. It's for the person who knows they could be happier but isn't quite sure how to get there. We share stories of people finding their own path, the science behind why happiness is so hard, and tools and strategies that might make things a little easier.

LISTEN ON

Outside of work

I'm a mom of two teenagers, which means I get to practice patience and flexible thinking every single day. On I Think I Can Be Happier, my co-host, Amy McDuffie, and I talk about what it actually looks like to work on yourself without pretending to have it all figured out.

When I'm not coaching, you can usually find me hiking, going for walks, watching way too many Korean dramas, or planning my next trip. I also write all my errands down and still forget to get milk from the grocery store. I'm telling you this because I think it's important to know that the person helping you with executive function is also a person who lives with executive function challenges. I'm not teaching from a textbook. I'm teaching from experience.
